I wonder if you would be able to provide me with some information concerning last year's Centenary Celebrations for the Whitby Swing Bridge.
I would like to know who organised the event please. And I would like to know how the event was financed in particular, if any funding was provided to, or by, SBC and into whose hands such support was delivered. In fact, I would like to see a simple accounting of where the funding came from and how (and by whom) it was disbursed including, of course the cost of the commemorative plaques and their installation.
The event was organised by the Whitby District Tourism Association and I understand that they applied for and received grants, these included a grant of £1,125 from the Borough Council’s Northern Area Committee. In addition the Borough Council and the County Council helped finance the plaques and some ancillary work namely:
Provision and installation of 2 no. information panels £2487.89
Scaffold/Painting of Bridge Hut and other items £3929.00
Electrical Works including Wiring of PA system £550.00
Power Cleaning of Bridge & Bunting Removal £471.68
In the spirit of helping the community to celebrate the event, this was paid for on a 50/50 split with the County Council, i.e. £ 3719.29 each from existing revenue budgets.
I am not in possession of all the costs and expenditure incurred by the Whitby District Tourism Association. This information would have to be requested by you from that organisation.
