Whitby Open Market

On 1 April the single new council for North Yorkshire launched replacing Scarborough Borough Council and other local authorites in North Yorkshire.

Whitby Open Market is a small traditional market which operates three days per week, subject to weather conditions, on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year.

Shoppers can find a variety of stalls including handcrafted silver jewellery, hats, clothing, antiques, art, bakery goods and hair-braiding. 

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the Market Place is occupied by café seating.

How to find us

Whitby market is located in the historic Market Place in front of the prominent Grade II* Listed old Town Hall building between Sandgate and Church Street on the East Side of Whitby.

The market can be reached on foot from Whitby train and bus stations or Endeavour Wharf car park within 10minutes and is 5minutes on foot from Church Street car park.

Becoming a trader

Whitby market is open to applications for both casual and regular traders.

If you are thinking of becoming a market trader, please contact the Market Superintendent in the first instance to discuss the products you would like to sell. 

All traders must complete an application form which will be provided by the Market Superintendent and adhere to the Open Market Regulations.
