Funding available from Advantage Coast Programme

East Riding of Yorkshire Council, working in partnership with Scarborough Borough Council, has successfully secured over £6.5 million to support community development, business growth and enterprise along the Yorkshire Coast, with the majority of this money being targeted at Bridlington and Scarborough.

The funding was awarded from the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Enterprise Partnership’s £85m allocation of EU funds.

Sporting excellence ambition for Scarborough

In plans unveiled today, partners in Scarborough set out their ambitious agenda to make the town a centre for sporting excellence.

Collaboration between property developer Broadland Properties Ltd, independent school Scarborough College and Scarborough Borough Council will lead to the development of an international competition standard athletics track on the former Bramcote School playing fields to the south of the town centre, as well as six state of the art tennis courts and bowling facilities nearby, on land between Deepdale Avenue and College Lane.

Site mobilisation begins on Futurist site

The project to demolish the Futurist theatre and adjoining buildings in Scarborough South Bay and carry out associated slope stabilisation works will get underway by the beginning of March 2018.

The contractor, Willmott Dixon, will undertake the project on behalf of Scarborough Borough Council and this week the company took formal possession of the site.

Between now and the end of February Willmott Dixon will set up its infrastructure and people will see hoardings appear around the perimeter of the site.

The Script to star at Open Air Theatre

The Script are heading to the Yorkshire coast next summer for what promises to be a sensational night at Scarborough Open Air Theatre.

The Irish rock band – who this year scored their fourth Number 1 UK album – will play Europe’s largest open-air theatre on Thursday 21 June 2018.

High tides and high waves warning

With high tides and the added effect of strong winds expected along the North Yorkshire coast from today and into the coming weekend, local authorities, North Yorkshire Police and HM Coastguard are advising people living at or visiting the coast to stay away from seafront areas for their own safety.

Tour de Yorkshire route announcement

Scarborough will once again host a Tour de Yorkshire stage finish in 2018, the only town to achieve the accolade in each edition of the race since it began in 2015.

It was announced today by race organisers Welcome to Yorkshire and Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) that Scarborough will host the finish of Stage Three of the Tour de Yorkshire on Saturday 5 May and for the very first time, the race route will take in the neighbouring town of Filey.

Bin collection disruption latest

Snowy conditions in Scarborough and Filey areas yesterday (30 November) resulted in some disruption to our bin collections.

Our advice to anyone that should have had their green/blue bins emptied yesterday or is expecting a collection today, is to leave your bin out for collection and we will get to it as soon as we can. Any green bins missed yesterday will be collected by the end of today (1 December). Blue bins missed yesterday will be collected by the end of tomorrow (2 December).

Court action against three dog owners

Following investigations by Scarborough Borough Council’s dog warden service, three dog owners were prosecuted for dog related offences at Scarborough Magistrates Court on Tuesday 28 November.

Nigel Humble of Crescent Avenue, Whitby, failed to attend court but was found guilty, in his absence, of offences of failing to clear up his dog’s faeces and exercising his dog off the lead in a controlled area at West Cliff Sports Ground in Whitby. He was fined a total of £440 with £120 in court costs and a victim surcharge of £30.
