Operation Culture launches in Scarborough

A multi-agency operation has launched in Scarborough this week to help improve the quality of life for residents and visitors. The scheme, known as Operation Culture, was introduced following feedback from the local community and aims to tackle those who bring the most long-term and on-going harm to the area.

Reminder to deal with electoral registration form

Scarborough Borough Council is reminding residents who have received an electoral registration form recently to deal with it by the date shown on the form.

People must check whether the information that appears on the form for those living at their address is correct as part of the council's annual voter registration canvass.

Tuesday date for Mulgrave Ward by-election

Scarborough Borough Council is reminding voters in Whitby’s Mulgrave Ward that a by-election for a borough councillor is to be held on Tuesday 29 August, the day after August Bank Holiday Monday.

Most elections are held on a Thursday, so the council is keen to ensure voters in the Mulgrave Ward are fully aware of the Tuesday date.

Parks in the three main towns of the Borough of Scarborough have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as some of the very best in the world.

Pannett Park in Whitby, Falsgrave Park and Peasholm Park in Scarborough and Glen and Crescent Gardens in Filey are among a record-breaking 1,797 UK parks and green spaces that have received a prestigious Green flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.

Scarborough Borough Council and Scarborough Athletic Football Club are reminding people that council owned land off Queen Margaret’s Road overlooking the new Flamingo Land Stadium, which is usually leased out as a donkey field, has no public right of way going through it and should not be accessed or used as a vantage point from which to watch football matches.

Reminder of dogs on beaches seasonal ban

As the school summer holidays fast approach, the beaches in the Borough of Scarborough will soon be at their busiest with visitors of all ages, both the two legged and four legged variety.

Scarborough Borough Council’s Dog Warden department is therefore reminding all dog owners of the seasonal restrictions for dogs on the borough’s main beaches.

Fylingdales parish housing needs survey

Scarborough Borough Council is conducting a housing needs survey in one of the northern parishes of the borough with the help of the local parish council. Questionnaires are in the process of being delivered to all households in Fylingdales parish, to see if there is a need for affordable homes, either to rent or to buy, for local people.

There is concern both nationally and locally about the lack of affordable housing in rural areas for local people on average incomes, resulting in many people having to leave their village to seek accommodation elsewhere.
