Open Air Theatre’s festive weekend returns

Thursday, 7 November 2019

Scarborough Sparkle, a magical and enchanting Christmas wonderland event for all the family, will return to Scarborough Open Air Theatre between Friday 29 November and Sunday 1 December.

The programme for the venue’s Christmas themed shopping and entertainment weekend includes festive stalls selling the very best Christmas gifts and food produce, an ice rink for a fun skating experience, festive musical performances from a variety of choirs and bands, illuminated fairground rides and Yorkshire Coast Radio roadshow with ticket giveaways for local attractions, experiences and theatres. New for this year will be a ‘Meet Elsa, Anna and Olaf’ experience where the young (and not so young) will be able to have photos taken with the popular ice queen and friends. There will also be prize giveaways donated by local businesses.

The inaugural Scarborough Sparkle in 2018 was a huge success with more than 26,500 people visiting the outdoor venue during the course of the weekend.

Scarborough Sparkle will open from 4pm to 8pm on Friday 29 November, from 11am to 8pm on Saturday 30 November and from 11am to 5pm on Sunday 1 December. Entry to the event is free although charges will apply for the illuminated fairground rides and ice skating, which will be £5 per person (including boot hire) for a 20 minutes session on the floodlit synthetic ice rink. Organisers recommend pre-booking to guarantee a skating session by calling Scarborough Open Theatre box office on 01723 818111. Lines are open daily between 11am and 4pm.

A free Scarborough Sparkle White Shoreline Suncruiser bus will be in operation on Saturday 30 and Sunday 1 December to take people to the event. It will operate from Eastfield to Peasholm via various locations, including Falsgrave and Scarborough town centre. The timetable is available at discoveryorkshirecoast.com/scarborough-sparkle

Stuart Clark, Scarborough Open Air Theatre Venue Manager said:

"Scarborough Sparkle proved so popular last year that we committed to delivering a bigger event for 2020. Very soon we’ll be announcing the full programme of musical entertainment, which will be a perfect backdrop for a very special weekend, full of Christmas delights for all the family."

Scarborough Sparkle is one of a number of festive events taking place between now and Christmas as part of a six weeks festival, 'Counting Down to Christmas', more details of which can be found at scarboroughchristmas.co.uk
