Road closures to protect public safety

In the interests of public safety, Scarborough Borough Council and North Yorkshire Police have taken a joint decision to close Royal Albert Drive, Marine Drive and Albert Road in Scarborough’s North Bay to traffic for the rest of today (1 March), ahead of an unapproved ‘car cruise’, which has been arranged for 6pm this evening without consultation with the authorities.

We are reviewing our anti-social behaviour Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in Scarborough and have launched a consultation to gather the views of local residents and businesses about whether a new PSPO should be put in place and the areas and types of issues it should cover.

Increased footfall attributed to business led campaign

Figures obtained by Scarborough Borough Council show a 4.1% boost to town centre footfall in Scarborough in the run up to Christmas last year compared with 2018, which is being attributed to the town’s business led, Counting Down to Christmas campaign.

New footbridge in position on Whitby East Pier

A new footbridge, constructed specifically to link Whitby’s East Pier to its pier extension, was craned into position in the early hours of Sunday 23 February.

Final work, associated with the installation, is now being carried out and once finished, the footbridge will be opened to allow people to walk all the way to the end of the pier extension, a walk that hasn’t been possible since the previous footbridge was removed on safety grounds in 2001.

Shaping the future of Quarry Mount Park

Residents living in the Seamer Road area of Scarborough are being asked to give their views on the future of one of Scarborough’s hidden gems, Quarry Mount Park.

Situated at the end of Asquith Avenue off Seamer Road, Quarry Mount Park has recently benefitted from a programme of work co-funded by North Yorkshire County Council’s Environmental Locality Budget and Scarborough Borough Council to reopen the walkways.
