Recent consultations
Whitby Conservation Area
On 28 February 2014, the Council adopted a revised boundary and a Character Appraisal & Management Plan for the Conservation Area of Whitby subject to amendments following public consultation. This has subsequently been extended by addition of The Ropery on 7 July 2014.
Whitby Conservation Area Article 4(1) Direction (Solar)
On 8 July 2014, the Council confirmed an Article 4 Direction over a large area of Whitby Abbey Headland and both sides of the Harbour.
Whilst all listed buildings still require consent for Solar PV and Solar Thermal roof installations, the Council on 8 July 2014 introduced an Article 4(1) Direction to remove permitted development rights from other buildings. Removal of these rights means planning permission for any such installations would henceforth be required.
The Article 4 area includes properties on The Ropery and 20 Green Lane which were added to the Conservation Area on 7 July 2014.
East and West Ayton
During 2013/14, the North York Moors National Park Authority consulted on a Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan for East and West Ayton. This includes land in Scarborough Council's planning area. The Character Appraisal was amended as requested by the Council on 28 February 2014 and formally agreed by the National Park Authority on 19 June 2014.
