Disc zones and clocks

On 1 April the single new council for North Yorkshire launched replacing Scarborough Borough Council and other local authorites in North Yorkshire.

To find your Councillor or to view minutes, meetings and agendas please visit the North Yorkshire Council website.

A Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) is an area where all on street parking is controlled, parking is only permitted in designated bays and that the remainder of the kerbside space is subject to yellow line restrictions. In Scarborough and Whitby these are called Disc Zones

If you are a permit holder please remember your permit is NOT valid in any 1 hour bays within your zone.

You need a disc clock to indicate your arrival time in a disc zone.

Disc zones are clearly marked with entry and exit signs.

Some restrictions, such as double yellow lines, apply outside of the controlled parking zone (for example if a disc zone is in force between the hours of 9am to 5pm, the double yellow lines within the zone are still in force 24 hours each day).

Disc clocks

Disc clocks show time of arrival when parking within a disc zone. The number accompanying the letter on the map (ie A2) refers to the maximum stay with a disc in each particular zone.  The area referred to as TC is a pay and display zone where parking charges apply.

Once the parking time has expired the vehicle must be moved from the zone for the amount of time specified by the sign before it returns.

Disc clocks are available from the Customer First Centre in Scarborough, the Tourist Information Centre in Whitby and they are also available from local shops and businesses, as well as hotels and holiday accommodation around the town.

Disc clocks are free.

If you require disc clocks for distribution from your business please email parking@scarborough.gov.uk or telephone 01723 232489 to arrange delivery.
