Kickstart at Scarborough Borough Council

We’re really excited to be offering a number of six-month job placements within our communications, housing, sport, regeneration, parks services, harbours and Spa teams.

The deadline for enrolment on the programme has now closed, and our Kickstart team - all 16-24 year olds, are being given great training opportunities and all the support they need to thrive in their roles and be in a great position to get their next job.

One of our fabulous team was recently nominated in the People’s Choice category of the Council’s STARS Awards.  One has already secured a permanent role at the Council, one is starting University in September and another starts a full-time role with North Yorkshire County Council in July.

Watch this space for updates on the Kickstart team.

What is Kickstart

The government launched the £2 billion Kickstart scheme on 2 September 2020 as part of their recovery response to the Covid 19 pandemic.

For many young people, a lack of work experience can be a barrier to employment. Kickstart aims to help young people gain experience and secure their place in the world of work.

Kickstart aims to provide 6-month paid work placements to 16-24 years olds who are accessing universal credit and deemed to be at risk of long-term unemployment.

Placements are for a minimum of 25 hours per week for 6 months and government funding will cover all salary costs at the appropriate National Minimum Wage plus the associated employer National Insurance contributions.
