About the vacancy

The Council own and operate its own dredging system comprising of a split hopper barge with mounted excavator. This system is primarily utilised at the Council’s ports of Whitby and Scarborough but undertakes external contracts at other UK ports.

The role will support the Dredging Master and act as Second in Command in maintaining the safe operation of the vessel and its associated equipment & operations.

The vessel has no accommodation therefore the role is predominantly day time working (with flexibility required to suit tides) however the position will require the successful applicant to undertake periods of external contractual dredging works for which additional, generous payments will be made. (Dredging experience is not essential full training will be provided)

The applicant

We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual with a relevant certificate of competency to act as Mate on a seagoing commercial vessel.  The successful applicant will ideally have experience of marine operations on a commercial/professional basis and possess a working knowledge of routine vessel and machinery maintenance.
