About the vacancy

We are seeking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic individual who is keen to make a career in Democratic Services.  Following a recent review of the Council’s Governance Structure (supported by a recent LGA Peer Challenge Review of the Council) we are seeking to refresh the scrutiny function, to make better use of its powers, whilst supporting councillors in their community leadership roles. Working at the heart of Council decision-making, this post involves an interesting range of work, including responsibility for servicing non-executive committees of the Council and internal bodies, and supporting elected Members on a regular basis.

The applicant

Applicants must have good communication skills, be capable of working under pressure, be able to work effectively in a team and demonstrate a commitment to flexibility.  A high standard of IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.  Knowledge and use of local government procedures, relevant legislation and political procedures is desirable but training will be provided.  Applicants must be able to undertake evening work on an occasional basis and at peak times. The ideal candidate will be someone who has experience of working in local government, is keen to learn skills in the role, and be able to make a positive and dynamic contribution in an organisation going through some exciting developments.  The successful post-holder will be provided with training and mentoring to develop and expand their knowledge. The role offers the opportunity to receive a formal industry recognised qualification.  Salary will be dependent upon skills and knowledge, with the ability to progress through pay scales upon meeting certain criteria and qualifications.

Interview date

Interview will be held on Thursday, 12 November 2020.

If we have not contacted you again by 9 November 2020, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful.
