By telephone: Contact the National Benefit Fraud Hotline on 0800 854 4400. Your call is free and confidential you do not have to give your name or address. Lines are open Monday to Friday 8.00am to 6.00pm. If you have speech or hearing problems, you can use a text phone service on 0800 328 0512 or Welsh speakers can call on 0800 678 3722.

Local Support for Council Tax fraud

Local Council Tax Support fraud are investigated by our counter-fraud providers Veritau.

Benefit fraud can include:

  • Making a false statement when applying for benefits, by not providing correct information or omitting any information.
  • Intentionally failing to report a change of circumstances, for example, a partner moving into a property which receives benefits, or changes to income or total amount of money a person holds whilst they receive benefits.

We rely on members of the public to report all suspected cases of benefit fraud and abuse, and we investigate all reports we receive. Any information you provide can be reported anonymously if you wish.
