Dead animals

On 1 April the single new council for North Yorkshire launched replacing Scarborough Borough Council and other local authorites in North Yorkshire.

To find your Councillor or to view minutes, meetings and agendas please visit the North Yorkshire Council website.

We will remove any dead animal found on the public highway (road, pavements and open spaces).

This includes wild animals such as badgers and foxes, as well as domestic pets such as cats and dogs.

Report a dead animal >

We cannot remove dead pets from homes or from private land.

Pets

Where possible, we try to log all domestic animals that we remove. If your family pet is missing, and you suspect it may have been involved in an accident, please contact us. We will endeavour to keep the animal for a short time period for identification purposes.

Livestock

The council is not permitted to remove dead livestock. If we receive any reports we approach local farmers and the National Fallen Stock Company, which often results in a slight delay in removal.
