The leader of the council is the most senior councillor and chairs meetings of the executive.
In Scarborough, we call this group of councillors ‘the cabinet’. The leader has certain decision making powers and usually has a portfolio of responsibilities. The leader’s role is different from the borough Mayor who has a mainly ceremonial function although they do chair meetings of the full council. The current leader of the council is Councillor Steve Siddons who also represents the Weaponess and Ramshill ward in Scarborough.
Councillor Siddons is a Labour councillor.
