Insurance claims

If you believe that you have suffered personal injury or property damage as a direct result of a negligent act on behalf of Scarborough Borough Council and you wish to pursue a claim for compensation then please print and return the insurance claim form.

We must advise you that there is no automatic right to compensation.  It is necessary for you to demonstrate that the council has been negligent and that you have suffered an injury or loss.  All claims are individually assessed and investigated, in conjunction with the council's Insurer, to enable a decision on liability to be reached.

The council takes seriously its responsibility for safeguarding the welfare of its residents and visitors.  The council also has a duty to ensure that the council tax payers are protected from unnecessary costs due to fraud and it may share information relating to claims with other organisations and public bodies.
