Public consultation to start on plans for Scarborough Leisure Village and a new Lidl store.
A public consultation event will be held on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 February about plans for the new leisure village on the Former Weaponness Park and Ride facility in Scarborough, which is to include a new community football stadium and a 25m swimming pool. The proposed football stadium will also provide a new home for Scarborough Athletic Football Club.
At the same consultation event, Lidl will also reveal details of its planned new foodstore on part of the former football stadium site on Seamer Road. This is one of the enabling sites helping to fund the leisure village.
The proposals
The new leisure village on southern part of the disused park and ride facility will include:
- A new 2,000 capacity community football stadium with artificial pitch. This will provide a home for Scarborough Athletic Football Club;
- 25m swimming pool and associated teaching pool;
- 4 court sports hall;
- Gym and dance studio;
- 3 x squash courts;
- Multi-use games area facility; and
- Associated accommodation and facilities.
The key elements of the Lidl proposals include:
- A foodstore with a net sales area of 1,286m².
- In-store bakery and full range of products.
- Free customer car park with 99 spaces.
- Creation of up to 30 full and part-time positions.
Feedback and getting in touch
We would like to hear your views on both proposals. The public exhibition will be held at Falsgrave Community Resource Centre on Seamer Road and is open to anyone on a drop-in basis from 4.00pm until 8.00pm on the Friday and from 10.00am until 2.30pm on the Saturday. At this exhibition, the latest plans for the leisure village and the foodstore will be on display and you will have the opportunity to ask questions about the proposals. Representatives from Scarborough Borough Council, Wrenbridge Land Ltd and its technical team, and Scarborough Athletic Football Club will be on hand to provide information, answer questions and collect feedback. Representatives from Lidl and its team will also be in attendance.
If you can’t make it along at these times, the exhibition boards and material are available to view below. In addition, you can complete the online feedback form so that your views and comments are provided to the team. The closing date for providing feedback is 20 February 2015. Alternatively, if you have any queries, you can email the team at scarborough@indigoplanning.com.
