How your Council Tax is spent

On 1 April the single new council for North Yorkshire launched replacing Scarborough Borough Council and other local authorites in North Yorkshire.

To find your Councillor or to view minutes, meetings and agendas please visit the North Yorkshire Council website.

For Council Tax purposes Scarborough Borough Council is referred to as a billing authority.

Details of the Council Tax charges for 2023/24.

This means that we are tasked with collecting Council Tax not only for services that are provided by ourselves but also on behalf of North Yorkshire County Council, The Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and where applicable a town or parish council.

For the financial year 2022/2023 the Council Tax collected is distributed as shown below between the major precepting authorities.
