Scarborough Borough Council believes that equal opportunities and diversity are central to all its functions and services. You can read our Corporate Equalities Policy.
We are committed to ensuring that there are vibrant, sustainable and cohesive communities in Scarborough Borough, in which all people can play as full a part as they wish. We will challenge, change and implement structures to remove the barriers that prevent people from participating in the issues that affect their lives.
We will consider the needs and aspirations of all our customers, residents, visitors and employees, regardless of age, sex, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, race, socio-economic group, religion or belief, physical abilities, or learning abilities, or any other characteristic.
The Equality Act 2010 replaced previous antidiscrimination laws with a single act, bringing together, harmonising and in some respects strengthening equality law. The Act includes a new Public Sector Equality Duty, replacing previous separate duties relating to race, disability and gender equality, which is in force from April 2011.
This Corporate Equalities and Diversity Plan sets out how will intend to fulfil our obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and brings together the range of equality and diversity initiatives and projects the Council, with the help of its partners, is working on into a single coordinated equality programme for the next three years to ensure that our commitments become reality.
We welcome any feedback on the scheme. If you have any comments, please email: equalities@scarborough.gov.uk
