Credit unions are financial co-operatives owned and controlled by their members. They offer savings and loans at affordable rates plus they are local and ethical.

Community First Credit Union

Community First Credit Union provide a range of low cost financial services including a current account, savings and affordable loans. Based in the Customer First centre on St Nicholas Street, Scarborough, they are open from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm, Monday to Friday. You can call them on 01723 377140.

Private Landlords Tenant Support Scheme

The Private Landlords Tenants Support Scheme (PLTSS) has been set up by Community First Credit Union with support from the Council to support tenants to better maintain and manage their tenancy, and also protect rental payments to the landlord. The purpose of the scheme is to reduce reduce rent arrears, increase rental payments to landlords and ensure more tenancies are sustained.

The scheme commenced in 2020, and was originally for 12 months, but with the pandemic and recent changes in respect of the eviction ban during Covid, it has been extended for a further 12 months to August 2022.

The Council have provided funding to Community First Credit Union for the scheme, which will cover a range of costs associated with the scheme, which will mean that neither tenant nor landlord would need to find these fees and charges.

State that you wish to join the ‘Scarborough Council Private Landlord Scheme’.

Your request will then be processed, you will then be able to register your tenant or tenants.
