FAQ

Why do we charge to use our public conveniences

The provision of public toilets/conveniences is a non-statutory service, unfortunately with the ongoing pressure on budgets all non-statutory services have been reviewed. Councillors have taken the decision to implement a charge to safeguard the service and provision of high quality toilets, with the entry fee going towards a refurbishment programme.

Why have you removed family passes

In 2018 we installed automated pay on entry paddlegates, this replaced attendants. Making this change significantly reduces the cost of operating our facilities and allows us to expand the opening times. Unfortunately it does mean that we can no longer offer a family pass.

Schools

We offer free access for registered school parties during the summer season.

Cleanliness

All our facilities are cleaned multiple times each day, unfortunately at busy periods the sites can become soiled very soon after our staff have attended.

Improvement programme

We are investing significantly in our network of sites, in 2018 alone we have invested in a refurbished Vincent Pier and are working on a full refurbishment of our St Nicholas gardens site.

Occasionally we may need to change the operating hours due to unforeseen circumstances such as mechanical failure or vandalism.

We offer free access for school groups to North Bay Beach Management and West Pier public toilets.  For more information, contact public.conveniences@scarborough.gov.uk at least two weeks in advance of your visit.  Note: There are other free to access toilets available across the borough.
We operate Changing Places toilets within St Nicholas Gardens, Foreshore Road, Scarborough, YO11 1NU public conveniences, to obtain access please email public.conveniences@scarborough.gov.uk in advance of your visit to obtain the access code.
