Appeals

Appeals to the Valuation Office

You can appeal, in certain circumstances, to the Valuation Office if you consider that the Council Tax Band applied to your property is wrong. The grounds for appealing are limited.

For further details contact the Valuation Office:

Appeals to the Council

You can appeal to the Council if you consider:

  • You are not the correct person to be charged;
  • The property should be exempt;
  • There has been an error calculating the amount due.

You should put your appeal in writing to the Local Taxation Section including as much information about the grounds for your appeal as possible. Making an appeal does not allow you to withhold payment of tax owing in the meantime.

Appeals to the Valuation Tribunal

The Valuation Tribunal deals with appeals against the decisions of the Local Authority regarding liability, exemptions and discounts. They will only deal with an appeal if you are dissatisfied with the outcome of an appeal to the Valuation Office or the Council.
