Boats - registration
Personal watercraft users must register their craft with the
local authority in order to use its beaches or launches to launch
their craft. Users will generally need to prove their competence in
order to obtain a permit.
Personal Watercraft
The registration of personal watercraft is outside the remit of
Scarborough Borough Council at this time.
The use of personal watercraft is permitted within Whitby and
Scarborough Harbours so long as they are fully
manoeuvrable, are able to reverse and can proceed at a
slow speed.
Launching of personal watercraft at both harbours is via the
slipway. See the Launching page.
Jet Skis
Jet skis are not permitted within Whitby or Scarborough
Harbour.
Whitby – launching of jet skis at Upgang Ravine is ‘unmonitored’
with a locked barrier, access is via key available from Whitby
Golf Club for a returnable deposit.
Scarborough – North Bay – launching of jet skis is controlled
Easter to October with a locked barrier and access is via the beach
staff. During winter access is restricted to the Scarborough
Jet Ski club.
