Cremation regulations 2008
New regulations governing cremation were introduced by the
Government in 2008, and came into force on the 1 January
2009. The regulations modernised and consolidate all previous
regulations and introduced a number of new procedures.
The regulations have introduced new cremation forms and a new
procedure which allows bereaved families to inspect the medical
forms of a deceased family member before a cremation takes
place. This allows families to draw the Medical Referees
attention to any concerns about unexpected symptoms or
discrepancies in the case.
