Backdated claims

How do I request that my claim is backdated?

Please see When will your benefit start? before you make a request to have your claim backdated.

If you feel that you wish to make an application, please complete and return this form:

Senior citizens

In most cases, if you or your partner are aged 60 or more and in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance (Income Based) or Income Support then you may apply for your claim to be backdated for a maximum of 6 months from the date of request.

If you are in receipt of Pension Credit then backdating will be automatically considered for a maximum of 3 months prior to the date of application but only back to you or your partner's 60th birthday or the day you become liable for rent if this is later.

Working age

In all cases backdating of a claim can be considered for a maximum of 6 months from the date of receipt of a written request where continuous good cause for the failure to make a claim is proven.
