Performance information
Following the change in government, the communities secretary is
urging all Councils to publish performance information about
front-line services in order to provide greater transparency and
local accountability.

In April 2011 Central Government consolidated the National
Indicator Set and other data sets collected by Local Authorities to
form a Single Data List more information can be found on the
Department for Communities and Local Government webpage.
Central Government are replacing the Audit Commission with new
local arrangements for auditing local councils.
This means:
local bodies will be able to appoint their own auditors from an
open and competitive market
oversight by the National Audit Office, Financial Reporting
Council and professional accountancy bodies will make sure that
high standards of auditing continue
In April 2008 Best Value Performance
Indicators (BVPIs) were replaced with a new set of National
Indicators (NIs).
In April 2009 Comprehensive Performance
Assessment (CPA) was replaced by Comprehensive Area Assessment
(CAA).
