808 State at Scarborough Open Air Theatre
The Manchester band behind one of the most
seminal chillout anthems of the 1980s will perform at Scarborough
Open Air Theatre this summer.
We can announce that 808 State, whose top-10 hit ‘Pacific
State’ is instantly recognisable almost a quarter of a century
later, will support Happy Mondays at the theatre on Saturday 22
Formed in 1987, Mixmag says 808 State “sketched the blueprint
for British techno as we know it”. They went on to have other
notable successes, with The Only Rhyme That Bites (with MC Tunes),
Tunes Splits The Atom, In Yer Face and Cubik / Olympic all charting
The band’s highest charting UK album, ‘Ex-el’, which included
guest vocals from Bernard Sumner and Björk, peaked at a lofty
Janet Deacon, Area Director for Welcome to Yorkshire, which is
supporting this year’s line-up at the theatre in association with
National Holidays, said:

No food or drink is allowed to be taken into the venue.
Umbrellas are not allowed in the venue (because they restrict
the views of others).
Under 14s must be accompanied by someone aged 18 or over.
The fixed seating in the raked area holds 5454 people. The
seating is raised above a walkway and the lower rows can be
accessed up a small flight of steps. The remaining seating within
the venue is accessed by a number of steps and the upper rows are
accessible to the more able bodied person. People with walking
difficulties should purchase seats in the lower rows.
