Top chefs to cook at Scarborough Seafest
Some of the region’s
best chefs will be demonstrating their culinary skill at this
year’s Scarborough Seafest.
The top-drawer cooks brought together by
Irene Myers and Associates, include The Weekend Cookbook author,
Catherine Hill and Masterchef finalist Tom Rennolds. They will be
joined in the Seafest Food Theatre on West Pier over the 21 and 22
July by other notable names including Rob Green from the
award-winning Greens Restaurant in Whitby; Dan Hargreaves from the
Restaurant@SJT; Stephanie Moon, Chef Consultant to Rudding Park;
and Martyn Hyde from Eat Me Café in Scarborough. Yorkshire Coast
College students will also be heavily involved in the
“kitchen”.
In an extra bonus for Seafest, Catherine
Hill will be signing copies of her Weekend Cookbook.
Supported by Welcome to Yorkshire and
Scarborough Borough Council, Seafest begins on the West Pier in
Scarborough’s South Bay on Friday 20 July – though the cookery
demonstrations only take place on Saturday and Sunday of the
festival.
Janet Deacon, Area Director of Welcome to
Yorkshire, which, along with Scarborough Borough Council is
supporting Seafest, said: “Last year there was standing room only
inside the Seafest food theatre. There was a fantastic atmosphere
and great interaction between the chefs and the audience – it has
become an integral part of the festival and I think it will prove
hugely popular once again.”
Cllr Janet Jefferson, chairman of the
steering group which organises Seafest, added: “The food theatre is
a wonderful way for people visiting Seafest to get involved. The
chefs are great at explaining how they go about cooking a
particular dish and I know many people go away and cook the dishes
themselves when they get home.”
As well as the chefs, Seafest will feature
a plethora of top musicians including Raven, Ishka, The
Demimondaines, Sea Fret and John Watton; a Great Yorkshire Brewery
Real Ale Tent with around 40 beers and six ciders; a Scarborough
Seafest food trail taking in local cafes and restaurants; an
exhibition marquee with around 40 art, craft and food stalls; a
grand Saturday night fireworks display; the Seafest Yacht Race; and
a special Blessing of the Boats Sunday service.
About Catherine
Hill …
Food stylist and food
writer Catherine Hill started life cheffing in her hometown of
Middlesbrough before heading to London to kick start a successful
career in food writing and food styling for magazines such as BBC
Good Food, Delicious, Olive, Woman and Home and Red to name a few.
A regular voice on Radio Tees, her first book The Weekend Cookbook
is published by Penguin.
She said: “The Weekend
Cookbook is basically a true reflection of my life as it stands
now. Like everyone else I know in my situation; juggling the work
you love with a young energetic family whilst desperately trying to
hold on to a once rampant social life!
Our time for friends and
socialising lies in weekends away or here at home with hoards of
kids, heaps of great food, a couple of waggy dogs and probably far
too many bottles of wine to mention.”
