Armed Forces Day 2012 - programme details

Armed Forces Day service.The final programme for Armed Forces Day in Scarborough this Saturday has been announced - though times are subject to change:-

 

11.30     Tribute to the Troops - Scarborough Dance Centre at Formal Area

 

12.00     Yorkshire Volunteers Band step off from West Pier to Formal Area; Event opened by Town Crier Hon Freeman Alan Booth MBE; Welcome by the Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough, Cllr Helen Mallory; Response by Commodore R Baum, Royal Navy, Naval Regional Commander Northern England; SSAFA-Forces Help launches “CAMO DAY” worldwide initiative

 

12.20     Veterans Badge Presentations with citations

 

12.45     Introduction of Ravens Free Fall Parachute Team

 

13.00     Ravens Free Fall Parachute Display to land on the beach in front of the Formal Area

 

13.10     Tribute to the Troops - Scarborough Dance Centre at Formal Area

 

13.30     Her Majesty’s Royal Marine Band Scotland step off from West Pier left onto seaward side of Foreshore to arrive at the Formal Area

 

13.35     Her Majesty’s Royal Marine Band Scotland Performance at Formal Area

 

14.00     Tribute to the Troops - Scarborough Dance Centre, performance at Waterfront café/Sandside

 

14.30     Royal Marine Fitness Challenge demonstration on the beach

 

14.45     Yorkshire Volunteers Band entertain on Sandside

 

15.00     Tribute to the Troops - Scarborough Dance Centre at Formal Area

 

15.40     Yorkshire Volunteers Band arrive at Formal Area

 

15.50     Parade step off West Pier, left onto seaward side of Foreshore, eyes right at Dias, around Aquarium Top roundabout to arrive at Formal Area; Parade formation - Her Majesty’s Royal Marine Band Scotland, Royal Navy Reserve Calliope and Ceres, Standards, UK Forces Veterans, Cadets,

Uniformed Youth and Royal British Legion Riders Club

 

16:15     Review of Parade - Parade Commander, Lt Cdr L Harrison RN invites the Mayor accompanied by Air Commodore W G Gambold DL RAF (Retd) (Deputy Lord Lieutenant, North Yorkshire) and Commander A Collier RN (Commanding Officer HMS CALLIOPE) to inspect the Royal Naval Platoon, Standards and the Royal Marine Band; Major Gen M Charlton-Weedy CBE (Retd), Commodore R Baum RN and Cllr. T Fox, Leader of Scarborough Borough Council

to inspect Veterans, Bikers, Cadets and Uniformed Youth

 

16.30     Presentation of Armed Forces Day flag to WW2 Veteran Dougie Harrison with Citation

 

16.35     Service of Thanksgiving led by Revd Martyn Dunning, Vicar, St Mary’s, Scarborough; Drum Head Ceremony performed by the Royal Marine Band

 

17.00     Town Crier Hon Freeman Alan Booth MBE gives “three cheers” to the Armed Forces; Royal Marine Band step off and Parade returns to West Pier
