Seafest adds 'Acoustic' flavours
Top real ales
and acoustic flavours have been added to this year’s Scarborough
Seafest.
The maritime-themed extravanganza which
takes place on the West Pier from 20 to 22 July will now feature a
mini beer festival with more than 30 real ales sourced through
Pickering’s renowned Cropton Brewery, as well as music by a
plethora of top local musicians through a new association with the
team behind Scarborough’s hugely successful Acoustic Gathering.
Also on the bill will be sea fish cookery
demonstrations featuring some of the region’s most talented and
well known chefs, including Masterchef finalist Tom Rennolds; an
eclectic mix of exhibitors’ stalls; spectacular fireworks; and a
special blessing of the boats service.
The new ingredients for Seafest have been
introduced after Richard Grainger, who has previously provided the
music element for the festival, decided to end his association with
the event.
Cllr Janet Jefferson, chairman of the
Seafest steering group, said: “It’s disappointing Richard has
decided to sever ties with the festival, particularly at this late
stage, but I would like to thank him for what he has done over the
years and wish him well for the future.”
Janet Deacon, Area Director for Welcome to
Yorkshire which is supporting Scarborough Seafest, added: “While
Seafest will still keep its strong connections with the town’s
maritime heritage and the sea, we’ve taken the opportunity to move
the festival in a slightly different direction. We could not be
more thrilled to have Cropton Brewery and the team behind Acoustic
Gathering on board and I’m looking forward to a sustained and
successful partnership.”
Phil Lee from Cropton Brewery said: “We've
had a long association with Scarborough Seafest and we're really
pleased we can help grow this event for the future. It's so good to
be able to bring exciting beers to such a great place, the whole
team are looking forward to the event.”
James Taylor, aka Mister Jim from Acoustic
Gathering, which takes place in Scarborough over 8 and 9 September,
added: “It’s a real privilege to work around here. There are great
artists, great music and really great beer! I'm excited already
about the show we've got planned and blown away by the support
we've had already.”
