Final chance to have a say on Town Hall proposals

Town Hall, Scarborough.21 May

Residents will get another chance to voice their views on proposals which would see the Town Hall relocate to offices on the outskirts of Scarborough.

Customer First would remain in the town centre, but other Scarborough Borough Council staff would move to the former Scarborough Building Society headquarters at Prospect House.

The move would clear the way for regeneration of the Town Hall, King Street and Futurist site. Consultation is continuing until the end of the month.

The issue will be discussed at 7pm on Wednesday 23 May at special meeting of the Scarborough Urban Area Forum in the ballroom at the Royal Hotel in St Nicholas Street after the Forum was asked specifically by the borough council to assist with the community consultation.

There have already been a number of well attended public meetings on the proposals including a special meeting of the Town Team earlier this month.

The Forum is set to include a presentation from the council’s Chief Executive, Jim Dillon, and the Head of Finance and Asset Management, Nick Edwards, as well as independently facilitated discussion groups.

The results and finding of the Forum will be collated by the Forum’s Support Group, which is made up of local residents, and then fed back directly to the council as part of the wider consultation process which ends on 30 May.

People can also have their say online at www.scarborough.gov.uk/townhallreview

Forum chairman Ros Fox said: “I would like to invite all residents and business people to come along to the Forum meeting and listen to the presentations and take part in the discussion groups.

“We want people to get involved and make their views known. Whether residents are for or against what they hear, everyone is welcome. The views put forward are very important to the Forum.”
