Mayor's ball a dazzling success
This year’s
Mayor’s gala dinner, a special Diamond Jubilee Ball held on Friday
30 March, raised approximately £5,000 for the Mayoress’ Community
Fund.
The ball held at Scarborough Spa, hosted by
the Mayor and the Mayoress of the Borough of Scarborough, Cllr John
Blackburn and Mrs Jackie Blackburn in association with the Rotary
Club of Scarborough was hailed a tremendous success after raising a
whopping amount for charity.
The main auction prize, an
exquisite diamond necklace, especially made for the occasion by
David Haywood of Rosh Jewellers raised an astonishing £1,050
alone.
Other ‘money-can’t- buy’ prizes also raised
a hefty sum for the cause including £300 for A ‘driver’s
experience’ on the North Bay Miniature Railway, £230 for two dining
tickets on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Pullman steam train
and £300 for a stay at the luxury Crab Manor Hotel in Thirsk.
The Mayor of the borough, Cllr John Blackburn
said:
“I think I speak for all
when I say the evening was a fantastic event, with delicious food
and fabulous entertainment from the 10 piece big band, Opus
One. Once again I would like to commend the members of the
Rotary Club of Scarborough for their support in organising the
ball, it has been a pleasure to work with them and I am overjoyed
at the amount we have managed to raise for the Mayoress’ Community
Fund.”
Nigel Wood, President of the
Rotary Club of Scarborough added:
“It has been a privilege to
pull this event together with the Mayor of the borough of
Scarborough and we are delighted that such a generous amount of
money was raised for this good cause which benefits the community
as a whole.
“We would once again like to
thank David Haywood of Rosh Jewellers in Huntriss Row who donated
the exquisite diamond necklace which was the centrepiece of the
auction as well as all the other sponsors who provided prizes for
the event. And, finally, thank you to everyone who attended
and supported the event.”
