South Bay beach re-grading

Scarborough's busy South Bay Beach18 April 2012

Scarborough Borough Council will once again be carrying out its annual sand re-grading on South Bay beach next week.

Sand that has been forced towards the back of the beach during the winter months by wind and high tides will be removed during this process and the beach will be re-graded. This remedial action helps to minimise the risk of flooding on Foreshore Road and excess sand blowing onto the road.

Chris Bourne, Scarborough Borough Council's Project Manager said:

"The beach is still open to all whilst this work is being undertaken, however certain areas will be cordoned off and 'heavy plant' signs displayed. The public should take extra care as there will be large vehicles moving up and down the shoreline."

The work is set to begin week commencing Monday 23 April and usually takes about one week to complete.
