A week to go until Strictly Pancakes 2012
Shrove Tuesday heralds the time for teams of
colleagues and friends from Scarborough to don their best fancy
dress, polish their frying pans and compete in Strictly Pancakes
2012.
This year the event will
take place on Tuesday 21 February on Aberdeen Walk in the town
centre, with the first race due to start at around 12.15pm.
This will follow immediately after the Mayor of the Borough of
Scarborough, Cllr John Blackburn, has rung the Pancake Bell in
North Street at 12.00pm.
A panel of four judges will
each give marks out of ten to the competing teams and the team with
the highest overall score will be the winner. They will be
scored on their fancy dress, pancake flipping technique and overall
skill, while negotiating a course devised by Yorkshire Coast
College Sports Department.
One of the judges, Carolyn
Jackson from St Catherine’s Hospice, which was last year’s winning
team said:
"All of the judges are
really looking forward to the event and our advice to those taking
part is that it’s not just a race of speed, but agility, skill and
dress sense too!"
Yorkshire Coast College
students will also be holding two cooking demonstrations elsewhere
in the town centre, assisted by the college’s professional
chef. The healthy option pancake will be showcased outside
Poundland on Westborough and for those giving the new year diet a
miss that day, traditional pancakes will be served up in the Market
Hall.
