Ice affects refuse collections

A road covered in snowIcy conditions around the borough are causing some delays for bin lorry crews - but Scarborough Borough Council is hopeful they will be able to complete all scheduled collections.

In the south of the borough, the service is "fully operational" but has experienced some delays due to icy roads. At present it is anticipated that collections will be largely unaffected.

In the north of the borough, the service is also fully operational, but icy conditions in rural areas have restricted safe access in remote locations. Further efforts will be made later today to try to get all scheduled collections made.

Meanwhile, council neighbourhood teams are again working in conjunction with North Yorkshire County Council to try to ensure that snow and ice are cleared from high risk / high footfall areas.

In Scarborough, teams are dealing with a number of  priority routes - mainly the town centre areas. Small teams are also working in the Eastfield and Barrowcliff areas, again to deal with high risk / high footfall areas.

The Filey-based team is dealing with secondary routes and the town centre high risk / high footfall areas.

Officers are continually evaluating progress and re-adjusting priorities to ensure that all areas are covered as quickly as possible while also offering "response'" support to the refuse and recycling teams, gritting icy roads where access is difficult etc.

In Whitby the teams are engaged with gritting car parks, some high risk / high footfall areas around the town and supporting the refuse and recycling collection teams.
