Ice affects refuse collections
Icy conditions around
the borough are causing some delays for bin lorry crews - but
Scarborough Borough Council is hopeful they will be able to
complete all scheduled collections.
In the south of the borough, the service is "fully
operational" but has experienced some delays due to icy
roads. At present it is anticipated that collections will be
In the north of the borough, the service is
also fully operational, but icy conditions in rural areas have
restricted safe access in remote locations. Further efforts will be
made later today to try to get all scheduled collections made.
Meanwhile, council neighbourhood teams are again working in
conjunction with North Yorkshire County Council to try to ensure
that snow and ice are cleared from high risk / high footfall
In Scarborough, teams are dealing with a
number of priority routes - mainly the town centre
areas. Small teams are also working in the Eastfield and
Barrowcliff areas, again to deal with high risk / high footfall
The Filey-based team is dealing with secondary
routes and the town centre high risk / high footfall areas.
Officers are continually evaluating progress
and re-adjusting priorities to ensure that all areas are covered as
quickly as possible while also offering "response'" support to the
refuse and recycling teams, gritting icy roads where access is
In Whitby the teams are engaged with gritting
car parks, some high risk / high footfall areas around the town and
supporting the refuse and recycling collection teams.
