Housing Needs survey in Eskdaleside
7 December
A Housing Needs survey is being undertaken in the northern
parish of Eskdaleside cum Ugglebarnby. Questionnaires have been
delivered to all households within the area to see if there is a
need for affordable homes, either to rent or to buy, for local
people.
It is important that every household which receives a
questionnaire and is in housing need responds because without this
evidence of what local people want then affordable housing schemes,
which can help keep open community services such as village schools
and shops, cannot be built. Households that are not within the
geographical area but still have a local connection to the parish
(for example people who were born in the area) can also be included
in the survey if they request a questionnaire.
Other parishes in the North York Moors National Park have
undertaken similar surveys which have shown a demand for affordable
homes for local people and resulted in new housing developments
being built in the nearby villages of Danby, Castleton, Hinderwell
and Lythe. These homes are now all occupied by people with a local
connection to the parish in which they were built.
Councillor Tim Lawn, Scarborough Borough Council’s ward
councillor for the Esk Valley and member of Eskdaleside Cum
Ugglebarnby Parish Council said:
“I strongly urge anyone in housing need to complete the survey.
I am regularly contacted by local people from Sleights who are in
housing need and are simply unable to afford to buy property in the
village.”
If anyone with a local connection to the Eskdaleside cum
Ugglebarnby parish is in housing need and would like to complete a
questionnaire they can contact Scarborough Borough Council’s Rural
Housing Enabler, Colin Huby by emailing
colin.huby@scarborough.gov.uk telephoning 01723 232323 ext 2945 or
