Night Before the Colours
19 September

Preparations are now underway for this year’s prestigious ‘A
Night Before the Colours’, a military style fundraising evening to
be held on Friday 4 November 2011 at Scarborough Spa. This year’s
event is extra special as it will be celebrating the 90th
anniversary of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
The event is being held to raise money for the Armed Forces
charities; (the Royal British Legion’s Scarborough Poppy Appeal and
the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Fund) by the organisers of
Scarborough’s Armed Forces Day celebrations, headed up by Major
John Senior and Captain Tony Viney, supported by Scarborough
Borough Council.
This year’s event is the second of its kind and will be held in
the style of a formal military Officer’s Mess, observing the finest
traditions of the British Army including a loyal toast to Her
Majesty The Queen and the passing of the port. The first ‘Night
Before the Colours’ dinner was held in November 2009 and raised a
whopping £22,000.
Guests will begin the evening with a VIP champagne reception,
followed by an exquisite candlelit four course meal in the newly
refurbished Spa Grand Hall. Entertainment will include a stunning
firework display and music by the Band of the Yorkshire
Volunteers.
Major John Senior, organiser of the Night Before the Colours is
excited about this year’s event:
“This event is a unique opportunity for those who are not part
of the Armed Forces to experience a formal military dinner where
specific protocol and etiquette must be adhered to.
“It is also a fabulous social and entertaining evening, which
helps raise funds for our much deserved heroes both at home and
abroad serving the country.
“In addition to the musical entertainment on offer and
spectacular firework display, as in the best military tradition
there will, of course, be a few extra surprises along the way!”
Tickets are priced at £45 per person and will be on sale from
Monday 19 September. As spaces are limited guests are advised to
