Last chance for sports village consultation
27 July

The consultation period on the three draft development briefs
relating to a new council owned sports and leisure village in
Scarborough will end on Monday 8 August.
The briefs include proposals for the sports and leisure village
on land at the Weaponness car and coach park, with the existing
Seamer Road football ground, the Filey Road Sports and Tennis
Centre and the remaining land at the Weaponness site released for
development to help fund the new leisure facilities.
Since the consultation started in June exhibitions have been
held at various venues giving people the opportunity to comment on
the proposals which have resulted in a relatively high number of
questionnaires being completed.
The draft development
briefs and further details are available to view until Monday 8
August 2011.
Following this deadline the council will then consider the
comments received and look at adopting finalised versions of the
briefs in autumn this year, with the documents providing guidance
for any future development, subject to the formal planning
application process.
Scarborough Borough Council’s Strategic Director, Hilary Jones
is urging people to take part in the consultation:
“This is a great opportunity for local people to comment and
have their say on the town’s future leisure facilities. The project
will deliver state of the art sports facilities for Scarborough and
re-establish a base for football in the town, benefiting the whole
community.”
