Falsgrave Park receives prestigious Green Flag Award
27 July

Falsgrave Park in Scarborough is one of the best in the country
– and that’s official!
On Monday 25 July 2011, Falsgrave Park received the Green Flag
Award, a sign to visitors that the park is well maintained and well
managed, providing a high-quality green space in the town.
Falsgrave Park is one of a record number of parks and green
spaces receiving the Green Flag Award this year, ensuring that even
more of us now have access to well-managed, high-quality green
spaces.
In 2011, 1,288 parks and green spaces will fly either the Green
Flag or Community Award, a sign that the value of green space is
widely acknowledged as vital to our communities.
Dorothy Russell, Chair of the Friends of Falsgrave Park
said:
“I am delighted that we have retained our Green Flag Award for
another year, it is a great acknowledgment of all the hard work put
in by the Friends volunteers and also the sterling job Scarborough
Borough Council does to keep our park looking at its best. The
Green Flag Award scheme is a great way of encouraging people to
come and use Falsgrave Park, which is one of Scarborough’s hidden
gems. I would recommend anyone to come and visit our park, take in
its beauty and even get involved with the Friends if they
wish.”
Andy Skelton, Head of Environmental Services for Scarborough
Borough Council added:
“I am delighted that the hard work and dedication shown by the
Friends Group and Environmental Services staff have been recognised
by the award of the prestigious Green Flag. This award underlines
our commitment to provide high quality, welcoming and safe green
spaces throughout the borough.”
Phil Barton, Green Flag Plus Partnership chairman said:
“I would like to congratulate this year’s winners, who have
worked hard throughout the year to keep their parks and green
spaces at a high standard and ensure they are pleasant and
enjoyable spaces for the whole community.
“The Green Flag Award Scheme, and its growth, is essential in
driving up the standards of our parks and green spaces. Access to
quality green space is something we all desire and the scheme plays
a key role in providing it.
“In these challenging financial times it is heartening that the
number of Green Flag Awards continue to grow. As the value of green
space and the role it plays in our communities strengthens, we must
ensure these high standards remain.”
