Background

Scarborough Borough Council is working to develop the Scarborough Spa Coast Protection Scheme - Project Appraisal Report, with grant aid funding from the Environment Agency. The Project Appraisal Report is required to apply for approval and funding for the design and construction of the scheme.

 

This scheme builds on the policies set out in the North East Shoreline Management Plan and the Scarborough Coastal Defence Strategy – Holbeck to Scalby Mills.

 

The project is currently in the early stages of development; gathering information and looking at options to implement the strategic option from the approved Scarborough Coastal Defence Strategy.

 

This is the first phase of consultation that will be carried out to inform the development of the scheme.

Consultation Summary

  • The purpose of this Environmental Scoping Consultation Document (ESCD) is to ‘scope’ the baseline of the Scarborough Spa study area in terms of environmental receptors and issues. 
  • This ESCD is now being consulted upon with a wide range of individuals and organisations, ranging from statutory nature conservation consultees to stakeholders, interested parties and the general public. 
  • This is done to gain feedback on the baseline that we have assembled within the ESCD and to ask if we have missed anything, if there are any gaps in our data or whether further pertinent information can be provided to develop our environmental baseline. 
  • All of this information will then feed into an Environmental Impact Assessment for the scheme and will also assist with the development of a Project Appraisal Report.
