Cemetery friends' annual meeting
The Friends
of Dean Road and Manor Road Cemetery are holding their annual
general meeting at 7pm on Monday 18 April at Columba’s Church Hall,
Scarborough and the group inviting members of the local community
to attend.
The Friends will be giving a
review of all the progress and achievements undertaken in the
cemetery over the last year, including funding successes, events,
activities and projects which will be followed by elections for the
2011/2012 committee
Everyone is welcome to join
the Friends and the meeting will be a great opportunity to find out
more about them and get involved with their current projects
including the Secret Garden and Dead House restoration, the
Garfield Back Road wildlife bed and the new sculptured seating
which is being funded by a successful bid to NatWest’s Community
Fund.
Following the meeting, Pam
Walgate, a member of the Friends and local family history
enthusiast will be presenting an insight about the symbolic art
found on many of the headstones in the cemeteries, giving those in
attendance an opportunity to find out about the significance of
some of these intricate and endearing carvings.
