Counting down to Scarborough Pride
The
countdown is on to Scarborough Gay Pride – a weekend of events
celebrating the town’s rich diversity.
It will take place from Friday 2 September
with a cruise planned for that evening and will culminate in a
beach picnic in the North Bay on Sunday 4 September.
To raise funds for Scarborough Pride, The
Albion in Castle Road is hosting a Masquerade Ball on Friday 29
April. Tickets are £3 and can be reserved by calling (01723)
379068.
Rachel Bennett, vice chairman of the
Scarborough Pride planning group said: “There’ll be fun and games
and great music from the house DJ. Everyone is welcome so go
along and bring your friends. There will be a prize for best
dressed and music from a special guest.”
Karen Chapman, chairman of the planning
group said: “We’re working hard this year to make 2011’s Gay Pride
bigger, better and more fun than ever before. The venue has changed
this year and we have a full weekend of activities planned.
“We have already confirmed a number of
local and national performers to entertain the crowds and there’ll
be lots of stalls and activities going on so there’ll be something
for everyone.”
More details of Gay Pride, which is being
supported by Scarborough Borough Council and Yorkshire Mesmac, will
be available soon.
