Whitby Swing Bridge work rescheduled

The swing bridge in Whitby, over the River EskMaintenance work on Whitby Swing Bridge which had to be postponed twice due to poor weather conditions, will now take place on Monday 24 January.

Engineers had been due to replace valves on both sides of the bridge on 25 November and again on 9 December, but both times they were thwarted by the cold, snow and ice.

Scarborough Borough Council is hoping it will be third time lucky for the valve work, which follows on from successful work to replace a gearbox part on the eastern leaf of the bridge in November.

This latest work will be carried out between 9am and 5pm. The bridge will not be operational for harbour traffic during these hours but vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be unaffected apart from some minor delays during testing on completion of the work.
