Current Regeneration Projects
Below are details of projects the Project Development Team are
currently progressing:
Mere & Oliver's Mount Country Park
Proposals
The masterplan and
feasibility study to map out the possible future of the Mere and
Oliver’s Mount area is now complete. Scarborough Borough Council
and consultants TEP have been working over the past year to bring
together a series of public consultations and investigations into
an overall masterplan.
The resulting plan aims to provide a mix of natural space,
woodland meadows, walks, cycle trails and bridleways, visitor
centre and passive water sports provision i.e. angling and rowing.
The plan also identifies areas for commercial type development
opportunities i.e. possible creation of an extreme sports centre,
hotel and eco lodges to support the community element.
A report to the Councils Cabinet will be prepared in early
spring to outline steps to drive the project forward and obtain
authority to start the work needed to secure the investment to
deliver the scheme.
Cllr Derek Bastiman: Portfolio Holder for Regeneration,
Strategic Planning and Community Development said:
"Our aim from the outset has been to bring the Mere and Oliver’s
Mount back into popular use and secure the future of one of
Scarborough’s finest but under-utilised assets.
This is the first step in what will inevitably be a medium to
long-term project. The masterplan forms the platform from which the
scheme can be progressed and funding and development partners can
be engaged.
I would like to express my sincere thanks for all those
stakeholders and members of the public who have contributed to the
consultations for their valued input".

Whitby Marina

This project will see the development of Whitby’s
upper harbour area in a bid to develop and diversify the economic,
leisure and cultural offerings the town has to offer.
The scheme will provide over 40 new pontoon berths in the
river Esk for both resident and visiting leisure craft and provide
much needed improvements to facilities.
Additionally, the area will benefit from rock revetment works
to the river bank and landscaping around the marina.
Details on how to apply for a berth can be found on the
boat moorings page.
Progress
The rock revetment works to the marina were completed in May
2008.
Two focus groups have now been established to look at
what can be done to upgrade the marina user facilities. The 1st
Focus Group was tasked with determining the internal layout, type
and scale of facilities required and the 2nd Focus Group with
bringing forward ideas for the external appearance of the
building.

The proposed new onshore marina facilities were approved
by the Planning & Development Committee on the 8th January
2009. The new marina facilities, costing
almost £1million, will include toilets (available to marina
users and the public), showers, launderette, disposal unit,
recycling facilities plus a marina reception.
Tenders are now been invited and once assessed and a
contractor appointed, work will begin, alongside stakeholders, to
develop the detailed design of the building.
