Filter Cartridges (Water ie: Brita)

'Brita' water filter cartridges can be recycled at collection points in both Argos stores in Scarborough. (Newborough and the Brunswick Shopping Centre).

 


Recycle fluorescent tubes.Fluorescent tubes

These are classed as hazardous waste and must be disposed of safely. If you are a resident, you can take these to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre.

 

If you are a business, you can arrange for a collection of your fluorescent tubes. There are lots of organisations available online who will collect and recycle them - simply put 'fluorescent tube recycling' into any search engine.  

 

Fact! Fluorescent tubes and energy saving light bulbs contain mercury which contaminates water courses and the surrounding land if they end up in landfill.

You can compost a lot of food waste, such as fruit and veg peelings, egg shells and tea bags. 

 

Residents in North Yorkshire can purchase  compost bins from Even Greener.com

 

There are also lots of other alternatives such as Bokashi bins, wormeries and green cones on the same website.

 

Fact! You can even recycle plate scrapings and meat bones in the green cone and bokashi bins! 

 


Food trays (Plastic)

Plastic food trays such as microwave meal trays, plastic takeaway containers and fruit punnets can be recycled in your blue bin or blue sack.A blue recycling bin and sack. 

 

*Remember to remove any film lids and give them a quick rinse out!

Recycle fridges and freezers.Fridges & freezers

These are classed as hazardous waste and therefore must be disposed of accordingly.

You can organise a FREE collection of your old or unwanted fridge or freezer by contacting Customer First on 01723 232323 the items will then be collected by RB Markets Ltd.


Recycle furniture.Furniture

Local furniture recycling schemes and selected charity shops will accept good quality furniture for reuse.

 

If the furniture is not suitable for reuse, it can be taken to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre free of charge. Alternatively, Scarborough Borough Council will collect bulky items with associated costs.
