Municipal waste strategy
As part of the North Yorkshire administrative area, a joint
municipal waste management strategy has been developed between
the County Council, and all of the seven District Councils. This
sets out the approach that the above authorities will take in order
to effectively manage the waste that residents of the area
produce.
The key aims are in line with the waste hierarchy, which are to
reduce the amount of waste that we produce, to maximise the amount
of waste that we reuse, and to recycle the maximum amount of waste
that we cannot avoid creating, or reuse. The delivery of these
aims will see the area becoming far less dependant upon
landfills as a form of waste management, which could ultimately
save money for the authorities, and residents alike.
The Scarborough Borough Waste Strategy details how the Council
will deliver the goals and aims that the Municipal Waste Management
Strategy has set out. It also outlines the approach taken by the
Council to the Recycling services that it provides.
