Welcome for Running Soldiers
The Mayor
of the Borough of Scarborough and local businessman, John Senior,
are set to welcome soldiers from the 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire
Regiment on Thursday 16 October as they pass through Scarborough on
their 250 miles coast to coast challenge, ‘Yorkshire Runner’.
The soldiers are due to arrive at the Town Hall for a welcome by
the Mayor, Cllr Eileen Vickers, at 3.00pm followed by a small
reception.
Cllr Eileen Vickers said:
“My Consort and I will be very honoured to welcome the soldiers
when they arrive in Scarborough, and we are very pleased to offer
them some light refreshments, which they will fully deserve after
their run from Whitby. Captain Andy Bell has advised me that,
as well as supporting other chosen charities, they will also be
making a donation to the Mayoress’ Community Fund, which will
benefit local groups and organisations across the Borough
area.”
The soldiers will then stay in Scarborough overnight before an
early start for the last leg of their challenge, which will see
them finish in Bridlington. Building on the Hero’s Welcome
initiative developed earlier this year, local businessman, John
Senior (restaurant owner and Chairman of the South Bay Traders) has
also extended a welcome to the soldiers by offering them dinner at
Tricolos.
