Consultation on the Future of Sports and Leisure Facilities in Filey

Scarborough Borough Council is launching a consultation on the
future of sports and leisure facilities in Filey and is calling on
the town’s residents to get involved and have their say.
The Council is currently involved in the process of drawing up
a design brief for a new sports facility in Filey, and the public’s
views would greatly assist in ensuring that any proposals meet the
needs of local residents and groups.
It is proposed that the site for the new sports facilities
would be on land adjacent to Filey College of Technology, on Muston
Road.
The proposal would involve the demolition of the existing
indoor swimming pool and rebuilding a new pool together with the
provision of indoor dry side sports facilities and outdoor
courts. It is proposed that the indoor facilities would be
dual purpose to accommodate community and social events as well as
for sporting purposes.
As part of the consultation proposal, the Council has
published a questionnaire, which it is inviting all residents to
complete. The questionnaire and full details of the proposals
can be accessed on the consultations section of the Council’s
website Alternatively, printed copies of the questionnaire
are available from the Evron Centre and Filey Town Council
offices.
Steve Hollingworth, the Council’s Head of Tourism and Leisure
said:
“We are really interested to know what facilities the residents of
Filey require and would use, and any other considerations that we
need to include when designing the facilities. We want as
many people as possible to have their say in shaping the future of
these facilities for their town.”
The closing date for the consultation is 31 December
2007.
