Planning
Planning Services incorporates three services: Building
Control, Development Management and Forward
Planning.
Through the preparation of local planning policies, and
encouragement of well designed and constructed developments these
services work towards improving the environment, not only in our
towns and villages but also in our countryside, making it a
desirable place to live and work.
Building Control
Building Control is responsible for ensuring that buildings
are properly designed and constructed so as to ensure health,
safety, welfare and convenience of the people using
them. From 1 April 2008 the Council's
Building Control Service is provided by the North Yorkshire
Building Control Partnership who will be able to help you will any
queries about construction of your development and the Building
Regulations.
Development Management
Development Management deals with all matters
related to planning and associated applications including Listed
Building, Conservation Area, Advertisement and Works to Trees
applications. The Planning Application pages will provide you
with information and advice on all aspects of the planning
process including planning applications, planning appeals,
planning committees and planning enforcements.
Appeal documents can be viewed against the original case
reference. However, this service is not available for enforcement
appeals which can be viewed by using the following link.
Forward Planning (Local Development Framework)
Forward Planning are responsible
for guiding the future development of the Borough outside of the
North York Moors National Park working on the preparation of the
Local Development Framework (LDF). The LDF is the replacement for
the Borough Local Plan and will affect how Scarborough Borough
develops in the future, directly through land allocations and also
through the adoption of a set of revised planning policies which
will guide future proposals.
The Forward Planning team prepare
Supplementary Planning Documents and additional policy statements
regarding the development of specific sites (Design Briefs), the
Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) which sets out how the
community can become involved in the planning process and plan
monitoring documents.

Planning Portal
Scarborough Borough
Council works in partnership with the Planning Portal to provide
services and information about the planning system.
