Mayor's sporting dinner a winner
The
Mayor’s unique sports charity dinner held at Scarborough Rugby Club
on Saturday 10 March has been hailed a huge success.
The event was hosted by the
Mayor and Mayoress of the borough of Scarborough, Councillor John
Blackburn and wife Jackie Blackburn in conjunction with local
business trader, Steve Hamblett and International Swimming Coach
and 2012 Olympics Organiser, Sam Greetham, to raise funds for the
Mayoress’ Community Fund. A grand total of approximately
£1,700 was raised which will help support local organisations
More than 140 guests
attended the event which was described as a “wonderful evening
which brought the sporting community of the borough together”.
Dennis Taylor, the former
legendary snooker player provided superb entertainment together
with the renowned stand-up comedian Martin Gold who had guests
laughing in their seats. Adam Jowett took home the snooker
cue signed by Dennis Taylor which was donated by the Mayor and
Geoff Fern scooped the special tickets for the Manchester United
Football game which was kindly donated by Crown Paints.

Scarborough, Councillor John Blackburn said:
“This event will especially stand out in my
time as being the Mayor as sports development is important to me
and is my chosen theme for the year It was a fantastic
evening and I wish to thank everyone who helped organise the event
and also all the guests who attended.”
