New affordable homes nearing completion in Filey
A development
of 19 new affordable homes for rent and sale is nearing completion
at Mitford Street in Filey. The development, which is being
built by housing association, Accent Foundation, will provide 14
homes for rent and 5 low cost home ownership properties.
The first phase of
properties to be completed will be 11 houses (6 for rent and 5 for
low cost home ownership). The houses should be completed by
the end of March. The remaining properties will be 8 flats
for rent that are being built on the site of the former Crown Pub,
which has been demolished to make way for the new flats.
These are due for completion in April.
The new properties will be
advertised through North Yorkshire HomeChoice, which is the choice
based lettings system for the letting of affordable housing
in Scarborough borough. Accent will be advertising the flats
on North Yorkshire HomeChoice at the end of February. Local
people in housing need with a local connection to Filey, who are
registered on North Yorkshire HomeChoice, are strongly urged to
look out for the properties when they are advertised. Details
of properties advertised on North Yorkshire HomeChoice can be found
on www.northyorkshirehomechoice.org.uk
Alternatively details can
also be obtained from Scarborough Borough Council’s Customer First
desk at the Evron Centre, John Street, Filey.
Cllr Bill Chatt, Scarborough
Borough Council Cabinet Member for Housing, Public Health, Property
Maintenance and Sustainability said:
"I am very pleased to see
this much needed affordable homes development in Filey coming to
fruition. There is an annual need of 49 new affordable homes
in Filey and Hunmanby, so this development will contribute
significantly to meeting that need."
Claire Stone, Managing
Director, Accent Foundation added:
"We are very pleased to see
the completion of our affordable new homes for rent and sale on
Mitford Street. Throughout the planning and building work, we
have worked closely with our partners; Scarborough Borough Council,
our main contractor Strategic Team Group and the Homes and
Communities Agency, which funded the development, and I'd like to
thank them for their support. Together, we have not only
developed the homes to the best modern design standards, but we
have also been able to meet the needs and aspirations of the local
people who will be living in them."
